After teaching the summer session and the fall semester, I realize how focused we have to be to accomplish our goals.  My goal is to help each of you progress as far as you can as fast as you can.   I ask that you set your own goal or goals high this semester.  Classes are small enough that each of you will receive much individual attention from me which should speed up your progress if you do your part. Resolve from the beginning to be in class on time, to do all of the assigned work, to ask questions, and to not sleep in class.

Each of you will have a folder in which to keep all of your work except that which you complete in your book. In order for you to receive credit for tests and other graded work, they must be in your folder.  You will receive a zero for any missing paper.  You will have homework almost every night.  In addition to your daily grades, you will have writing assignments and scheduled tests.  Please, keep up with ALL of your papers.

Journal (or diary)

You will write in a journal 7 days a week.  Each entry must be at least 40 words.  You may use any type notebook or other book.  I will check your journal periodically.  You will get credit as long as you have the required number of words.  I will not correct grammar or spelling.  This is 5 % of your total grade for the semester.  Please date each entry.

Grading Policy

Your journal is 5 % of your grade.  Daily work is 20% of your grade.  Tests, essays, and other graded writings are 50%.  The average of your midterm exam and your final exam is 25%.

Attendance Policy

Tardies of more than five minutes are assessed as absences at the rate of three tardies = one absence.  Missing more than half the class counts as an absence.  Sleeping in class results in an absence.  An excused absence is one with a written excuse from the doctor.  An excused absence means that you can make up the work, but you are still counted absence.  If you miss a class you get a zero as a daily grade for that class.

REMINDERS

Speak only English in the classroom and in the hall coming and going from class.

Write in your journal EVERY DAY!
