Goals:               The student will learn to communicate accurately, meaningfully and appropriately by writing fully developed and/or researched paragraphs and basic essays with supplementary practice in language usage and grammar.

 

Objectives:       The student will be able to:

 

·        Use past perfect, past perfect progressive and future progressive tenses with 80% accuracy and be more comfortable with the verb tenses s/he has already learned.

 

·        Identify gerunds, infinitives and participles four out of five times.

 

·        Identify and correct run-on sentences and pronoun/antecedent errors in level-appropriate sentences with 80% accuracy.

 

·        Use an English thesaurus to identify new vocabulary and use this vocabulary in essays.

 

·        Spell additional irregular verb forms correctly with 80% accuracy.

 

·        Differentiate between dependent and independent clauses and will correctly identify and use the appropriate one four out of five times.

 

·        Form complex sentences, with no more than two dependent clauses, using sentence combining skills with 80% accuracy.

 

·        Compose simple, clear letters, formal and informal, in the correct format with an 80% accuracy rate.

 

·        Use commas proficiently with 80% accuracy.

 

·        Write a simple essay correctly using the five paragraph essay pattern as measured by data collection.

 

·        Use subject/verb agreement, articles and prepositions correctly four out of five times.
